2016 PRIZES

Kicking off Earth Day 2016, the third annual Fishackathon will be held on April 22-24 in over 40 sites across the world. Volunteer coders, technologists, and designers will spend a weekend developing usable solutions to problem statements solicited from fisheries experts around the world. Cash Prize - $10,000

A panel of expert judges will select finalists to represent their city and move on to the global challenge.

Each of the finalists will have the opportunity to refine or enhance their solutions prior to the final submission - due at 05:00pm EST on Monday, April 25 2016.

A winner will be selected by a panel of global judges and announced on World Ocean's Day (June 8, 2016).

Application Development Grant

One team's idea will be developed by a U.S. Government contractor - with input from fisheries experts, technologists - and the team itself.

Local Prizes

Each location will have local prizes - awarded for that city alone.

HOSTS

Launched in 2014, Fishackathon was established to bring together volunteer coders to create tools to address challenges in sustainable fishing around the world. The pilot Fishackathon brought together coders in 5 cities around the United States, and the second annual Fishackathon in 2015 expanded to 12 cities worldwide, including hackathons in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

This year we have over 40 hosting sites in virtually every continent.

"[Fishackathon] brought to light many global issues that I had previously not known about. It was an amazing gift to be able to contribute last year and get to know the effects of overfishing on other areas of the world and to have the opportunity to help not just help environmentally, but also help the lives of those that make their living from the fishing industry."

-Logan Bair, 2014 Participant
